Social media monitoring for the maritime sector launched
Specialist maritime content provider Coracle, has launched a new website, CoracleVoice.com to provide social media monitoring for the maritime sector
The rising phenomenon of Social Media now transcends all areas of life and is here to stay: the internet has empowered people, given them access to information and given them a voice. As user engagement increases, monitoring what is being said online becomes increasingly important.
According to the Econsultancy Social Media and Online PR Report, Nov 2009, the biggest barrier to better social media engagement for companies was a lack of resources (54%).
The popularity of free monitoring tools continues to grow and are now an essential part of the digital marketing toolkit, but filter failure from over-abundent content remains a real challenge: Coracle Voice aims to help reduce this failure issue by monitoring keywords that are directly relevant to the subscriber base.
James Tweed, founder of Coracle commented; "We don’t make editorial type decisions, we present all data and links, but remove the stuff that software never seems to quite filter out as it should. Filter failure is a real problem, there is just so much noise online, but we believe that our service will help people quickly and simply keep an eye on key topics.
"This service is ideal for people who want to know what's being said, but don't want to spend time trawling the internet to see if anything interesting has been said."
Blog monitoring: Using a range of software tools, Coracle monitors blogs and news services for stories and comments based on topics and keywords and then applies human logic to check that irrelevant results and spam don’t get through. The service offers a simple way for industry followers to gather daily news from a broad variety of sources. Subscribers are invited to submit terms for Coracle to monitor.
Twitter Top 40:
The maritime twitter top 40 is published by Coracle Voice on the 1st of every month. The chart is produced by tracking hundreds of people and considering the number of followers they have, the number of unique references to the person in Twitter, how often is the person uniquely retweeted, how often does the person retweet other people and the relative frequency of the persons update. Coracle measure their influence, popularity, engagement and trust on a ‘per follower’ basis to give a number which is multiplied by their impact to give the ranking score.
The twitter top 40 is not a simple measure of volume, ie, number of followers or lots of tweets, as these are easily faked through schemes that artificially inflate numbers, but about how much people respond to what you say.
For anyone who doesn't use twitter themselves, Coracle Voice is the ideal way to follow the top 40 as their live tweets are published on the site.
Together with its eLearning website - CoracleOnline.com; podcasting website - ShippingPodcasts.com and the range of iPhone and BlackBerry apps, Coracle continues to work on innovative services to bring new standards to the depth and reach of online maritime information.
